Looking out the Ski Village Resorts window on Saturday, October 9, 2010, one might have guessed that it was the middle of December. With the big white snowflakes swirling around, everyone’s initial sense of shock turned to smiles and excitement.
With only 31 days until the Breckenridge Ski Resort opens, locals are getting revved up for another epic season on the slopes. Catching the 1st chair on a powder day, cruising down groomers on a blue bird day, and rushing down to get on the last chair before the mountain closes are just some of the thoughts that were running through my mind this past weekend.
In addition to pulling out of storage the hats, mittens, and snow scraper, I’ve noticed that I’m indulging in more comfort foods this time of year. I made a trip to Soupz On in Breckenridge for some warm, creamy soup while the wind whipped around and the snow was falling. Donuts, mac and cheese, and casseroles have been on my mind as the temperatures get cooler. I hope I’m not the only one out there who defines the seasons by food!
